NOTES: Ashley Daneman releases her sophomore album, “People Are Fragile,” on the Chicago-based label, Flood Music. The hour-long offering combines nine original jazz/folk singer-songwriter tracks with two African-American spirituals and one Gershwin arrangement from Porgy and Bess, “My Man’s Gone Now.” Much of the material is the singer’s processing of deep grief and loss, a searching for identity and meaning, with a dose of transcendence, inspiration and hope.

There is a flow. It’s where I must go to now. Now that years have rolled on so far from what I know. How can I hold on to pictures on the riverbank of time? [Oh, oh, oh] There is a flow. Did anyone ever sow you a lie into your skin, close to your heart, right at the start? Right at the start… Did anyone ever teach you a tune you know wasn’t yours?
